Have you ever wondered what are the best batteries for trail cameras? Over the years we have tried a lot of different batteries. We have found that the best batteries to use really depend on how often you want to check your trail cameras. We have found there are batteries that are really good and some that can be harmful to your cameras.
Checking Trail Cameras Often
If you check your cameras often, meaning once weekly or biweekly, or if you have close access to them like in your backyard, this is our list of best batteries to use for your trail cameras. You can check the batteries prices on Amazon by clicking the blue links.
- Energizer Rechargeable Batteries
- We have used these batteries for over a year now. We tested them for over 8 months in the upper Utah mountains where temputures regularly reached below 0 degrees ferinhight. These batteries still had power after the 8 months. With their ability to recharge, we have saved a large amounts of money on batteries.
- Duracel Batteries
- Duracel has always been a reliable batery source for us. They can be a little bit more expensive but they will last for long periods of times. They have often lasted us 3 to 4 month periods pending on how many animals walk in fornt of our cameras.
- Energizer Batteries
- Energizer batteries are also really reliable and last about the same time length as the Duracel batteries. However, these batteries are usually $10 to $15 more expensive.
- Amazon Batteries
- Amazon batteries are not that high of quality and do not last as long as the batteries above. They are very cheap which is why they made our list of best batteries to use for short time use. They usually cost around $30 for 100 batteries.
- Rayovac Batteries
- We do not recamend getting these batteries. They can work in trail cameras, but they have a high possibilty of over heating your camera and frying the SD cards inside your camera. (Yes we speak from experiance) They are pretty good to use in winter if you live in a colder part of the world. If they over heat the cold can off set the temperture.
Checking Cameras Over Long Periods of Time
If you want to leave your trail cameras for a longer period of time the list below is a good list to choose from.
- Energizer Lithium Batteries
- These batteries last a very long time. We used these for over 8 months before they ran out of power. They are a little pricey but they can be worth it.
- Duracell Optimum
- These batteries are a little bit more expensive and lasted almost 6 months.
- Energizer Rechargeable batteries
- These batteries lasted over 8 months through a Utah winter.
