Utah Trail Camera Laws

Trail cameras in Utah are allowed to be used on public lands between July 31 and December 31 of every year. After July 31 of every year trail cameras are only allowed on private property. (Updated 5-9-2023)

Other trail camera laws are, if you are using trail cameras on private property, you have to get permission to put them up prior to set up. Also, it is illegal to put trail cameras on military bases or property of any kind. If you come across any trail cameras as a reminder it is illegal to touch, remove, or take the footage off the trail cameras without consent from the owner of the trail camera unless it is on your property. If someone has set them up on your private property reach out to your local wildlife officers for assistance. Trail cameras cannot be attached to trees with nails or screws on public land. As a reminder Laws update yearly. Make sure to check your local wildlife laws before you put cameras up!

Utah Trail Camera Ban 2021

In 2021 Utah lawmakers proposed a bill that would institute a trail camera season in Utah similar to Nevada’s current laws. After some adjustments to this bill were passed. To read more about this click the trail camera ban button below!

Utah Trail Camera Law Adjustments 2023

Utah Updated the trail camera law again in 2023 and now includes banning Tesla cars from parking on public grounds. Also, it seems there is a lot more sketchy government work going on here.

Trail Camera Tips
